Relevant Experience
Through high school, art was always my focus. What really helped is that like many artists I took every art class I could get my hands on. In fact when I had finished every possible art class I could take, I gained even more experience by working in the Graphic Arts Department at my school. I took the basic and advanced classes. This allowed me to see what it was like, not just on the artistic end, but also the production side. I got to see everything from concept to press.

With Lowes I was able to move quickly with the company. I was hired in as a Team Leader in 2 hours. In 3 months I was then promoted to Department Manager. During my time as Department Manager I ran several departments that helped develop my creative side like Paint and Home Decor. I held the record for the most consecutive bonuses due to my departments making budget each month. I took a department that was in the red and turned it around into the black in 3 months. From there I moved into the training program for an Assistant Store Managers position. I passed the training program without difficulty. Three months after that I was immediately placed into the training program for Sales Managers. I was the first in our district given this opportunity and passed this training with a 100%. In 2007 I became an Assistant Store Manager (Zone Manager) for the Marion Lowes. In this store we broke our budget consistently. Last year we were 8% over budget at year end, and had started out this year 20% above budget. I received full bonuses this year and all that I was in charge of made budget. The store will again make budget this year, and profit in the upwards of 36 million. I was responsible for half the store when the Store Manager was there. When he was not there it was up to me and any other managers if they were there to run, open, or close the store. All complaints, operations, and decisions were in my or other senior managers hands. I managed over 150 employees and I had to work regularly without supervision. My next step in succession was Store Manager.

With my Graphic Design company, I have been working on for years. Most of my work was on the side so that I could provide for my stay at home wife. My published work includes a couple CD covers for Christian Artists, several comic book illustrations for independent companies, and local businesses using my work for various logos. I have done t-shirt designs, and for the past 3 years I designed the local phone book for the Adams/Wells Phone book. I got my first real break a few years back when I was offered a game box cover design and a magazine cover design. This last March I pushed head long into my art and most recently signed a contract for two different comic books. One to illustrate, and the other to Digitally color using Photoshop. I have also picked up smaller residual contracted work. One of which resulted in being able to redesign a local radio stations logo.

Currently I am also enrolled in the Art Institute of Pittsburgh: Online Division. I will receive a full Bachelors degree within a few years. The bigger opportunity is that it allows me to have a job and spend time with my family, while taking my classes at my leisure. I am looking forward to adding a degree to my accomplishments.
